Like many of the regions of France, the Lot region is steeped in history. The town of Montcuq has foundations dating as far back as the Roman times and it received its character in the 12th century as a Cathars stronghold.

The region and its towns were the site of many skirmishes and battles for control of the region over the centuries and changed hands several times during the Hundred Year's War. Manoir de Calvet's origins date back to at least the 14th century with the fortified house at its centre, over the centuries additional buildings have been constructed and the original property extended.

The main use of the Calvet estate was that of agriculture, accommodating and feeding those who worked the surrounding land and the barns providing shelter for livestock and storage of the harvest. Dressed in white stone, the original buildings remain along with many features and remnants of the past, these are displayed within the estate grounds and even extend into the surrounding forest for those with a keen eye.
